Tony Elumelu Foundation Empowers 3,200 Entrepeneurs

The landscape of African enterprise just received another significant surge of momentum. The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), the continent’s foremost philanthropy dedicated to empowering business leaders, has officially announced the selection of 3,200 young African entrepreneurs for its 2026 Entrepreneurship Programme.

Representing all 54 African nations, this diverse cohort marks a critical milestone in the foundation’s mission to drive poverty alleviation and catalyse large-scale job creation across the continent.

A Milestone for Africapitalism

With this latest announcement, TEF’s total impact has reached a staggering new height. The foundation has now funded, trained, and mentored over 27,000 African entrepreneurs. This achievement reinforces TEF’s position as the largest private-sector driver of entrepreneurship in Africa and serves as a living testament to the philosophy of Africapitalism.

Coined by the Foundation’s Founder, Tony O. Elumelu, C.F.R., Africapitalism is the economic belief that the African private sector-and specifically its entrepreneurs-holds the key to the continent’s socio-economic transformation. By equipping these 3,200 new innovators, TEF is putting that belief into direct action.

Driving Inclusive Growth

The 2026 cycle isn’t just about numbers; it’s about inclusive economic empowerment. By ensuring representation from every corner of the continent, the programme bridges regional gaps and empowers youth who are often excluded from traditional financial systems.

These entrepreneurs are expected to create a “multiplier effect,” where one funded business leads to dozens of local jobs, providing a sustainable solution to economic challenges.

The Road Ahead

As these 3,200 men and women begin their journey of mentorship and funding, the eyes of the continent are on them. They represent the “missing middle”- the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that form the backbone of any thriving economy.

At Dorpenyo, we believe that these are the stories that shape our future. We congratulate the 2026 TEF cohort and look forward to tracking their progress as they transform local ideas into continental solutions.
